The US Attorney’s Office executes court ordered Federal search warrants in Erie today.
The FBI searching the house of Erie City Council President Sonya Arrington, and her office at the Booker T. Washington Community Center. Shantel Hillard, Executive Director of the Booker T. Washington Center, says that the center, itself, is not involved and it only has to do with Arrington’s office. Sonya Arrington runs several of her anti-violence and mentoring programs out of her office in the Booker T. Center.
According to a press release from the US Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Scott W. Brady, “special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed court-authorized warrants at 1743 Glendale Avenue, in Erie, Pennsylvania, 16510, and at 1720 Holland Street, in Erie, Pennsylvania, 16503, as part of an ongoing investigation”.
Those addresses match both her office and her home. Which, when we arrived at her home on Glendale Avenue, FBI agents were in the process of wrapping up their search, taking several boxed items from her home. Her husband, Steve Arrington, had very little to say about the investigation calling it a misunderstanding. “We gave them the keys,” Steve says, “we have nothing to hide”.
We placed a call to Sonya Arrington. That call went to a full voicemail box; she has not responded. We also talked to several City Council members who declined to go on camera, saying it was too early in the investigation to comment or come to any conclusion.
Shantel Hillard says his organization is not named in this investigation.
