ERIE, Pa. — A Strong Vincent girls basketball coach was suspended after an altercation with a fan in the stands during a game Monday night in Warren.

Vincent head coach Paul Przepierski, who is also a teacher at JoAnna Connell School, is suspended pending an investigation following Monday’s incident.

A video taken at the Strong Vincent-Warren girls basketball game shows Przepierski going into the stands after a fan.

With 1 minute, 46 seconds left in the game, Przepierski went into the stands after a witness said a fan started yelling at Przepierski, saying his players were being disrespectful to a Warren player who was injured. Przepierski reportedly yelled back at the fan, before the fan yelled an expletive. That’s when Przepierski went into the stands.

According to fans at the game, there was shoving before the Warren Athletic Director and some Strong Vincent players broke up the incident.

The Warren Times-Observer reported that the game was stopped for an injured player when the altercation started. Officials instructed Warren coaches and players to leave the gym. Warren was up 54-22 when the game was called.

“Apparently it was an incident between a coach and a spectator,” Erie Schools spokesperson Daria Devlin said. “The coach has been suspended — paid suspension — pending investigation. “Obviously we take this sort of thing very seriously and the coach will remain suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.”
