Summer events at Presque Isle

There are a lot of events happening at Presque Isle State park this summer season. Here’s a list of some events you may want to check out. 

  • Lagoon by Pontoon (Daily May 27 to Sept 5 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m.)
    • The Lagoon at PI is full of natural surprises such as sun bathing turtles, wading great blue herons, beavers slapping their tails on the water, and many other natural wonders. Join the park staff on a one hour interpretive pontoon boat ride to discover the natural history and beauty of the interior. Sign-up begins at 10 a.m. The program is free, but there is a limited number of spots daily.
  • Evening Lagoon by Pontoon (Wed and Fri June 1 to Sept 2 7 p.m. and 8p.m.)
    • The evening hours on PI can be the best time to enjoy wildlife activity. Registration is first come first serve. Registration for the week begins at Monday at 10 a.m. online.
  • TREC Open House Native Plant Sale (Sat June 4 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.)
    • Purchase perennials, shrubs, grasses and more. 
  • TREC Open House Family Fishing (Sat June 4 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.)
    • Try your hand at hooking a big catch. All ages welcome. Equipment and instruction provided. Meet at the Waterworks pond near the Rotary Pavilion on Presque Isle. No fee or registration required. 
  • TREC Open House Aqua Lab Tour (Sat June 4 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
    • Guided tours of TREC’s aqua lab start every half hour. Meet at the visitor info center. No fee. 
  • TREC Open House Natural History Museum (Sat June 4 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
    • Eplore and leanr the processes of specimen preservation at the TREC. Tours start at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Meet at the visitor info center. No fee.
  • TREC Open House Green Building Tours (Sat June 4 11a.m. to 3p.m.)
    • Learn how TREC is designed as an environmentally friendly building on a 30 minute guided tour. Tours start at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Meet at the visitor info center. No fee. 
  • TREC Open House Meet and Greet with Environment Erie (Sat June 4 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
    • Stop in at the AAUW Pavilion at TREC to talk with the staff of Environment Erie. Learn about their programs, participate in hands on activities, and discover how you can do your part to help protect our earth. No fee or registration.
  • TREC Open House Coyote and Fox Talk (Sat June 4 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.)
    • Both the coyote and fox call PI home. Meet in Room 112 for this family friendly talk. No fee. 
  • Evening Lagoon Paddle (Thurs June 9 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.)
    • Enjoy a guided paddle in the lagoons of PI. The area provides a quiet setting for paddlers of any skill level to enjot the wildlife and an evening on the water. Required equipment included a kayak or canoe, life jacket, whistle and boat light. A limited number of boats and equipment are available to loan. Please indicate on registration if loan equipment is required. Advanced registration is required online. Fee is $6.
  • Bay Fishing by Pontoon (Wed Jun 18 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.)
    • Presque Isle Bay is a great place to fish. Kids ages 8-15 and an adult are invited to join the Park Naturalists for a morning of fishing aboard a pontoon boat on PI Bay. All equipment is provided. Registration is required online.
  •   Father’s Day Fishing Program ( Sun June 19 1 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.)
    • Celebrate Fathre’s Day at PI. Join a Park Naturalist at Perry Monument to start a news tradition. All equipment is provided. Registration is required online.
  • Pennsylvania Bats (Fri June 24 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.)
    • Bats play a vital role around the world as pollinators. PA bats are not pollinators, but they are important to the ecosystem. Meet at TREC during Pollinator Week to learn about PA bays. No registration required. 
  • Bike Tour of PI (Sat June 25 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.)
    • Join a Park Naturalist at PI for a guided bike tour. Meet at the Cookhouse Pavilion. Eric Brozell of Bike Erie will provide instruction before the ride. No fee. egistration is required online.
