VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A family’s quest for justice 25 years in the making could end soon, as a Summit Township man goes on trial in Virginia Beach, Va., for murder.
A jury could be chosen as early as Tuesday to hear the case against Robert Malick.
Malick, 47, is charged with the 1990 rape and murder of 17-year-old Joan Schoppaul, who’s body was found behind the dumpster of a Virginia Beach grocery store. Her body had been wrapped in a sleeping bag.
Investigators said advances in modern forensics are why they can prosecute now.
Malick was living in Summit Township in 2014 at the time of his arrest.
