A 17-year-old East High School student is fighting for life after being struck by a pickup truck on East Lake Road.
The accident happened around 1:30 Monday afternoon near the corner of East Lake Road and Dunn Blvd. It happened shortly after school let out at East High School for a half day.
Witnesses say a gray Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound on East Lake Road, while a semi-truck was passing it, traveling westbound. They say the 17-year-old victim was crossing the street behind the semi and was hit by the pickup. Then, police say an SUV traveling west bound is suspected of also hitting the teen after he was lying on the street. Traffic investigators believe an EPD officer let that SUV go before they arrived.
The victim was taken to UPMC Hamot and is in critical condition. Witnesses say the teen was still moving and breathing when he was transported from the scene.
Investigators blocked off East Lake Road between Brandes and Pennsylvania Avenue Monday afternoon as they analyzed what happened.
The investigation is ongoing.
