For many years community shelter services has been providing emergency shelter, a Christmas sponsorship program, back to school programs and so much more. On Friday the shelter opened their doors in welcoming a displaced family after the Erie Downtown Hotel was shutdown.
“Like I said each year it’s getting bigger and looks like it will be a fun time,” said executive director of Community Shelter Services Mark Alexa. Three awards were given to three restaurants taking part in the event.
Chili is said to be the perfect comfort food on a cold wintery day.
“We’re out there on the front lines with helping the homeless people day in day out,” said President of board of Community Shelter Services John Blakeslee.
All proceeds collected from the Chili Face off will go towards having more space and heating for the women and children section of Community Shelter Services.
