The beautiful gardens and corporate signage along the Bluffs of the Bayfront will soon be gone, according to officials involved in the project.
The spaces for the signs and gardens were leased from the Port Authority, who owns the land, to the Erie Community Foundation, who managed the project. The gardens and signs were put into place along the Bayfront Parkway several years ago. According to the Port Authority, none of the participating organizations want to renew their leases.
Brenda Sandberg, Executive Director of the Erie Western PA Port Authority says, “When we approached, each of those sponsors to determine their interest in continuing with leasing that space for signage, each of them decided it was time to move on and utilize that annual funding responsibly in another way.”
Annual maintenance on the gardens costs around 4 to $5,000. For now, you can still catch a glimpse of the decorative logos, but they will soon be removed.
