The Erie Seawolves welcome 26th Player to the team

Local News

The Erie Seawolves are adding another player as the 26th man to their team. Nico Kolash was diagnosed with a heart murmur at 18 months old. It was suggested that the hole in his heart have a device implanted over to close it.

On June 7th Nico underwent open heart surgery when it was determined that the hole was too large to close with a device. The Seawolves signed Nico to a one day contract to serve as the 26th man of the team. This all started from a viral video that Nico’s father posted on twitter for the Seawolves to see. Nico began rooting for Seawolves catcher Jake Rogers after watching him catch a bullpen session at UPMC Park.

He met Rogers July 3rd the night Rogers hit a game winning home run in front of a record crowd of more than 7,000 fans. Nico will be pitching, batting, and running the bases with Rogers. His favorite position to play on the field is left field.

Watching Baseball was a way for Nico’s parents to get him involved in sports during his recovery with out getting physical.
