The legal battle over health insurance continues and could affect local households

In 2 months, families in our community face the prospect of losing access to their chosen healthcare providers. Stephanie Moryc’s family is currently under the health insurance Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Moryc’s husband just beat Cancer but still has other follow up appointments. “It’s not affordable for us,” said Moryc.

According to State Representative Ryan Bizzarro all of this is happening between Highmark and UPMC because of money disputes. “We need to start putting people over profits,” said Bizzarro.

The Attorney General originally filed the lawsuit in February arguing that as a charitable organization UPMC has an obligation to protect patient’s access to affordable care.

We reached out to UPMC but no one could comment at this time. The lawsuit seeks to modify and extend the UPMC Highmark health consent decrees that expire on June 30th.
