A unique collaboration between two local organizations pairs special needs individuals with horses out on the trail.
Fairview’s Therapeutic Riding Equestrian Center — also known as TREC — is partnering this summer with Erie Homes for Children and Adults.
It is putting their clients on trained therapy horses and taking a ride through TREC’s sensory trail.
The activity stimulates the senses of riders as they look, feel and smell certain objects found along the path.
“Having TREC team up with Erie Homes allows us to meet people that we wouldn’t normally meet before that need our help with the therapy and just exercising,” said Olivia Danylko, a TREC volunteer.
TREC is a certified horse therapy program providing assistance to mentally and physically handicapped people of all ages.
