The calls went out tonight to find people looking to change their lives.
The process began at the New Life Spirit Center, where spiritual advisors and clergy made calls to at risk young people. Those people are known to be involved in violent, and anti-social behavior. The program is designed to offer them a way out through counseling, education, and opportunity. It offers programs and support systems to help them get onto a more lawful and productive path.
Erie County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper says, “We all have a place in making our community a better place… their role and their responsibility to their community as a whole.”
Erie Mayor Joe Schember was on hand tonight to get a closer look at the call-in program. Supporters note that violence in the city has gone down since the program was started.
