Tired of looking at that old sofa sitting in the basement? Time to haul it to the curb! Erie’s Single Large Item Collection Program kicks off today and runs until Thursday April 27. Residents may set out one large item per week to be picked up by the refuse collection trucks on your regular collection days.
Furniture items that are permitted are: couches, chairs, lamps, tables or dressers. If you have some of these items that are still in serviceable condition, please consider donating them to local thrift shops, Salvation Army, Good Will or other charity. It helps out those in need and keeps the items out of the landfills.
There is a long list of items that will NOT be accepted. This list includes televisions, computer monitors, printers, washers, dryers, tires, hazardous materials, auto batteries and construction debris.
Electronic items such as televisions must be recycled at a separate electronics recycling event planned for Saturday May 6th, 9 am to 1 pm at the City garage complex, 1926 Holland Street. ID will be required to prove you are a city resident. Tires will also be accepted during the electronics recycling event but there are limitations and restrictions on the tires.
