For the 11th year, public transportation agencies around the nation are participating in “Dump the Pump Day,” a day where you are urged to leave your vehicle at home and take public transportation.
Dump the Pump Day began back in 2006 when gas prices were topping $3 a gallon. Even though prices have fallen a bit, officials are still urging people to ride public transportation and save on gas. And, when it comes to state of the art, the new busses at EMTA are powered by compressed, natural gas; meaning, a clean running bus.
The inside of the bus is up-to-date, as well, “Whether it’s being able to use smart phones at a stop and send messages, you’ll get a message back via text. If you don’t have a smart phone, it will tell you when the next bus will be by.”
