Join Meteorologist Tom Atkins as he hosts a Skywarn training this evening at Youngsville Volunteer Fire Department. Training will begin at 6:30 PM.
This is a free training course by the National Weather Service to become a trained weather spotter. Skywarn was developed in the early 70’s as a volunteer program of almost 290,000 trained weather spotters. These volunteers help keep their local communities safe by proving timely and accurate reports of severe weather to the State College Office of the National Weather Service.
Tom will cover the basics of thunderstorm development, fundamentals of storm structure, identifying potential severe weather features, information to report, how to report information, and basic severe weather safety.
If you’re interested in helping keep your community safe, you can attend the training tonight, April 11, 2019 at the Youngsville Fire Department at 222 East Main Street in Youngsville, PA. (Use Orchard Street entrance next to the Post Office; parking in rear of YVFD.)
