Trauma nurse speaks about being only survivor of helicopter crash at this year’s Nursing Symposium

It was a full house this morning at the Bayfront Convention Center for the annual Nursing Symposium.

UPMC Hamot promoting ‘Connecting to Purpose and Maximizing Impact’ this morning. The goal of the event is to increase critical thinking and knowledge of emerging trends and concepts in nursing.

This year’s guest speaker is RN Jonathan Godfrey, a medical helicopter flight nurse.  Godfrey is the sole survivor of a 2005 medical helicopter crash into the Potomac River. He shared his story of survival and what it’s like to go from trauma nurse to trauma patient.

Godfrey talks about how his helicopter plummeted 200 feet into the river and survived the crash with serious injuries. He later wrote a book called, ‘Max Impact, A Story of Survival’.
