If you have plans to travel to eastern Pennsylvania or New York City in the next week or so, we have important news for you. The Delaware River Bridge on I-276 ( The Turnpike) over the Delaware River has been closed in both directions until further notice. Bridge Inspectors found a fracture in a steel truss under the road deck Friday afternoon. The 6500 foot long bridge was built in 1955 and carries over 42,000 vehicles a day. Detours are in place but expect delays and traffic jams as traffic is redirected onto other streets and highways. The bridge is located on the eastern end of the turnpike just short of I-95 and is situated between Philadelphia and New York City. Inspectors are working today to decide exactly what repairs are needed and how long it will take.
