A bill moves forward that would allow local police departments to use radar guns to monitor speed.
Currently, only State Police are allowed to use the guns, but Senate Bill 251 has already passed in the Senate and has been in the hands of the House Transportation Committee since November.
The purchase of such radar guns would be covered by taxpayers.
State Representative Ryan Bizzarro expresses his concerns over local police departments utilizing these tools, saying in part, “I believe this becomes an unnecessary burden to the already busy police officer and to the taxpayer, who is already struggling to keep up with his or her current expenses and can potentially cause more harm to communities than good.”
