PITTSBURGH — David J. Hickton, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, announced his resignation on Monday.
Hickton, who has served as U.S. attorney since August 2010, will officially resign at midnight Nov. 28, according to a news release.
“The opportunity to serve as a United States attorney in this administration has been professional privilege of a lifetime and the highlight of my career,” Hickton said in a news release.
U.S. attorneys are appointed, not elected, and they serve at the pleasure of the president. It’s a common practice, although not required, for them to step aside when a new administration takes office in the White House.
