Union City Borough Manager accused of embezzlement

The Union City Borough Manager allegedly embezzled more than $100,000. The FBI is now investigating Cheryl Capela. 
Capela, wore many hats. As Borough Manager, she was also Secretary and Treasurer of the borough. 
“She took care of the money, the phone calls, directing people to where they needed to go, ” said Council president Braden McCrillis who is surprised a long time borough employee would be accused of embezzlement.
Capela has served as Borough Manager since the late 1990’s.  Last month, the borough received the information regarding the possible misuse of funds.
The Borough Council began an internal investigation.  The board voted to terminate Capela’s position at Monday’s council meeting.  The FBI and the US Attorneys Office are now investigating these accusations.
