UPMC Hamot becomes the first hospital in the country to use new robotic technology for the early detection of lung cancer.

According to the UPMC Hamot Comprehensive Lung Center, the Auris Health’s Monarch Platform will improve the process of seeing inside the lungs and collecting tissue samples.  Lung cancer claims more lives than any other cancer.

Doctors say this technology will help them diagnose lung cancer earlier.  Dr. Stephen Kovacs of UPMC Hamot Comprehensive Lung Center says they do this by “building in computerized navigation and the ability to use very microscopic tools through this in order to diagnose and get biopsies without making any incisions at the earliest possible stage we can”.

The Auris Health’s Monarch Platform was used for its first patients in Erie last week.
