UPMC Hamot’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is now the only certified rehab program in the region.

The two-year-old program receiving the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Certification.  The program offers outpatient services for those living with chronic lung disease.  COPD is now the third leading cause of death and the program to help those with disease see health improvements.

The program treats diseases including emphysema, asthma, lung cancer, cystic fibrosis and other lung conditions.  “Our team of practitioners, respiratory therapists, exercise physiologists, nurses and a registered dietitian work together to develop individualized health improvement plans to help each patient meet their education and exercise goals,” says Stephen Kovacs, Co-Director of UPMC Hamot Lung Center.

“We have a lot of people with COPD, pulmonary fibrosis and a lot of advanced lung diseases that had very limited opportunities and options up until recently,” Kovacs tells us.  “So, having this certification just builds into the high level of excellence that we’re very proud of with the care we provide here at UPMC Hamot.”

In order to be a part of the program, you must have a referral from your doctor.  For more information, please click here.
