ERIE, Pa. — UPMC Health Plan is recognized as Erie’s 2016 outstanding philanthropic organization after being nominated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
UPMC Health Plan Community Relations Manager Jenny Geertson says, “UPMC takes its responsibility as a corporate citizen very seriously. It’s something we value as much as providing high quality healthcare products to all of our customers.”
The organization has provided nearly a million dollars per year in each of the last four years, not only to the Erie community, but also to the surrounding counties in which UPMC has a footprint.
Geertson says, “As happy as we are to pass on those donations to organizations, we really want to help them thrive beyond a one-time donation, what are other ways we can get involved and we really look to shepherd those relationships with people.”
Health Plan employees regularly volunteer at the local children’s museum, while giving back to the United Way program.
Erie Make-A-Wish Regional Director Jan Stork says a lot of what what Geertson has been able to do at health plan stems from her four years of experience with Make-A-Wish.
Make-A-Wish Senior Regional Director Jan Stork says, “When she started working here at UPMC Health Plan, we were thrilled to be able to work together again in a very different way where she’s able to impact our children through philanthropic gifts and volunteering instead of on the staff end.”
UPMC Health Plan is just one of several award winners who will be recognized on Nov. 15 as part of the 29th annual National Philanthropy Day.
Stork says, “This is an opportunity to really come together and help your local community and Erie has so much to offer.”
