UPMC Hamot kicks off Donate Life Month by honoring organ donors and celebrating organ recipients.
UPMC joined with the Center for Organ Recovery and Education to encourage individuals to make the Pledge for Life by becoming a donor.
Hundreds gathered in the main lobby at the hospital to hear inspiring stories from hospital leadership, transplant surgeons, and organ donors and recipients.
31-year-old Chris Moore posted on his Facebook expressing his need for a kidney. His co-worker of many years, Rebekah Ciedro, responded. She tells us, “Well, I’ll at least try… if nothing else, at least there’s a little bit of hope at least he knows there’s somebody out there thinking about him and just wants to help.”
Chris Moore says, “Not only did she give me a better chance at life… but she’s added value with her friendship.”
UPMC’s Donate Life events will continue tonight with a town hall information session at the Bayfront Convention Center and the lighting of the Bicentennial Tower.
