Major renovations are underway at UPMC Park.
In just a matter of days, crews have already taken off the top four inches of the playing surface at UPMC Park. A spokesperson with the Erie SeaWolves says right now the focus is getting rid of the old to replace it with the new.
The construction is part of a $12 million grant from the state. Changes include improving the irrigation and drainage on the field. SeaWolves President, Greg Coleman, says ideally, fewer games would be rained out once the drainage issues are fixed. “When it’s all said and done, it’s going to address some of the things that, frankly, weren’t quite done the way we would’ve liked to see them done 25 years ago, but now we’re ready to adjust that.”
Crews started work a few days ago and the goal is to have the renovations complete by mid to late October.
