A Crawford County Christmas display is bringing holiday cheer to a community and healing to a family.
The treehouse along State Highway 1-98 in Summerhill Township draws attention with more than 8,000 lights, but for the Martin family, it’s a reminder of their loved one. Michael Rudler built the treehouse nine years ago for his nephew, Ryan, but since Rudler died in 2010, it has become a memorial.
Ryan Martin, now 16, tells us, “We started doing it ever since it’s grown, and we’ve been lighting every day. It hasn’t been dark since he died pretty much.”
Ryan’s Mother, Brenda Martin, says, “I think that through this effort, Ryan has learned to let his light shine as strongly as his Uncle Michael did for other people.”
The Martins say they change the lights for different holidays, but the treehouse remains aglow all year ’round.
