Community members honored veterans over a game of golf Saturday.
Boots on Ground hosted a golf outing at Mound Grove.
The event kicked off Saturday morning with a formal ceremony.
Performers sang a veteran version of Hallelujah.
At the end of the ceremony, Boots on Ground presented a disabled vet with a paramobile until, which will allow him to “stand up” and golf on his own.
Coordinators said these events give vets a better quality of life.
“The work that we do is so serious all the time that we want to do something fun, not just be serious all the time. Let’s have a good time and everybody just have fun and I think it’s going to be great,” said Venus Azevedo-Laboda, Boots on Ground Founder.
Coordinators said the veteran suicide rate is too high.
They told it’s something people need to talk about more, to make a change.
