Victims of deadly Erie accident named

ERIE, Pa. — Coroner Lyell Cook confirms the identities of the victims a fatal accident on West 12th and Cherry streets Friday.

Three Erie men, Charles Barnes, 65, Willie Byrd, 72 and Oscar Johnson, 65, were killed when the SUV they were in sped through a red light at the intersection around 2 p.m.

The driver was reportedly traveling in excess of 90 miles when the vehicle struck a semi. The top half of the vehicle was severed and embedded in the trailer.

Part of the SUV also struck another car, which careened into the wall of a building.

The drivers of that vehicle and the truck were not injured.

Investigators have not determined which man was driving the SUV.
