A 14-year-old burglary suspect shot and killed by a Tempe Police Officer. That officer now on administrative leave, and Saturday, the family of Antonio Arce gathered with family and friends to remember him.
A heartbreaking afternoon for the Arce family as complete strangers, friends, and neighbors of Antonio Arce gathering just outside the alley where he was shot on Tuesday.
“My mom is devastated still. My mom, this is something you really see on tv; see on movies. You never expect this to happen you just never expect it”.
Close to 100 coming out to show their support, releasing white balloons into the sky, telling stories of their son, friend, and brother.
“He would always invite me to the gym; he would always tell me, ‘let’s go play sports'”.
“He knew how to be there for anybody that he hung out with the most and Antonio didn’t deserve all this; he was too young to waste a life like this.”
The family who viewed that body camera video released by Tempe Police on Friday still in shock over what they saw.
Tempe Police Chief Sylvia Moir addressing the incident Friday afternoon, saying, “I stand before you to be fully transparent, responsive, and honest about this very tragic event.” Asking all to withhold judgment until a criminal and administrative investigation is complete.
But, this death is still extremely raw for the Arce family.
“How do you feel killing a 14-year-old boy? How do you feel?”
