Local disability advocates come together for a day of awareness at the Millcreek Mall.
Voices for Independence has been hosting the annual Disability Awareness event for the last decade. The event gives those with disabilities a chance to see what resources are available to them in the community, from wheelchair repair to home health aides.
For many people, finding the specialized care they need can be a challenge.
Shona Eakin, CEO of Voices for Independence, says, “So many people feel like they don’t understand or they don’t have resources. And sometimes, we can feel trapped in our own homes, in our own families. We don’t know what supports are out there… There’s so much available to people.”
