Dozens of volunteers joined the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission on Elk Creek Friday to stock the waters with brown trout ahead of the official season start Saturday.
More than a thousand pounds of trout were stocked Friday. Elk Creek in McKean Township is now full and ready for fishing.
Volunteers say for 30 years they’ve worked with the PFBC to make sure the creek is stocked with 200 to 300 fish.
Conservation officers note that the creeks aren’t able to support a natural population so they help subsidize the creek to maintain the sport.
Fishermen can only keep a total of five trout a day, and they must be at least 7 inches long.
Trout season begins at 8 am Saturday.
