Voodoo Brewing Company denied permit

Local News

The city denies Voodoo Brewing Company’s request to put a dining area on State Street. Now, Erie City Council’s president says there may be a revote.

Voodoo Brewing Company is going in the old Boston Store and wants to put tables and chairs on State Street’s sidewalk. They requested the permit from City Council that denied the request with a vote of 4 to 3.

Councilman Curtis Jones Jr. voted against the request because the permit is free of cost, he says.

Now, council is putting the item back on their agenda for the next meeting in an attempt to work out a compromise and explore a permit fee.

“It is nice we get someone like Voodoo who’s moving in there, councilman Casimir Kwitowski said. “To say the least I wasn’t happy when we lost Erie Brewing Company. I never like to lose anybody, so I think we have to be kind of proactive with people who are willing to invest.”

Voodoo Brewing Company is still working to rennovate the building while they await the permit.
