ERIE, Pa. — Lawmakers from Harrisburg made a special trip to Erie to get a firsthand look at issues within the Erie School District.
Sen. Dan Laughlin invited Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Scott Wagner, representatives from the governor’s office and other legislators to tour Collegiate Academy, Central Tech and the Elizabeth Lee Black School at the Barber National Institute Wednesday afternoon.
Laughlin said he wanted those in Harrisburg to know exactly what issues the district is facing and why the necessary funding needs to come to the area.
“I think when people see the problems that we have firsthand rather than pictures or someone telling them about it,” Laughlin said.
Wagner said he has several ideas to help the school district, including asking the private sector to pitch in in the efforts.
“I’ve heard about the district, Dan Laughlin has told me about the district, I have met with some of the district people over the last few months,” Wagner said. “We can do better.”
