Waldameer, families observe Memorial Day

Local News

ERIE, Pa. — Families poured into Waldameer & Water World Sunday.

Visiting the Millcreek Township amusement park during Memorial Day weekend is a tradition for some families.

The holiday weekend is the first busy weekend of the season, according to Steve Gorman, president of Waldameer & Water World, but rain kept the typical large crowds away.

The inclement weather led to the fireworks show planned for Sunday night being postponed until Memorial Day.

Many families that spoke with JET 24/FOX 66/YourErie.com were thankful to spend time with loved ones and grateful for the sacrifices of service members.

“It’s about enjoying what you have been given from other people. I’ve been given the opportunity to be able to come to a park by–not only the people I serve with, but–the people who came before me,” said Carl Floss, 19, of Wexford, who serves with the Pennsylvania National Guard.

The free fireworks show will be held at Waldameer on Monday, May 29 at 9:00 p.m.
