Water World prepares for opening

Local News

Waldameer Park & Water World is expecting large crowds this weekend.

With temperatures expected in the 80s, president of Waldameer Park & Water World, Steve Gorman, is looking forward to the opening of the water park.

“Oh yeah, it is always fun to open when it is warm like this,” Gorman said. “Especially when we know that we will have a good decent sized crowd at the water park.”

The water park’s biggest attraction is the wave pool, which opened in 2015 and can accommodate up to 1,000 guests. The wave pool takes 450,000 gallons of water and requires three days to fill.

New additions to the water park this year include, a kiddie zone — which features eight slides and a wading pool — and a new spray zone.

Construction on the new kiddie splash pad is underway and expected to be completed in June.

While the water park has been closed, Waldameer has been open on Saturdays and Sundays since May 7.

The full operating season begins in June.
