The department gets the trees from Wattsburg and sells them at the Denny’s service lot on Buffalo road.

Christmas time is approaching and as you’re looking for your tree, consider buying one from the Wesleyville Volunteer Fire Department. When you purchase a tree from the department, you’re helping those who help others.

“Every Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday, we come out here, we sell Christmas trees and this is our biggest fundraiser of the year,” said Chief Matt Flak. Chief Flak added that the department runs primarily off of donations from community members and fundraisers. “Awesome being a part of an organization like this and we can’t do it without  the community. It ultimately saves you a lot of tax dollars,” said Chief Flak.

The Christmas tree sale is the department’s largest fundraiser and they usually sell around a 100 trees. “When the tones go out and we get a call, we’re doing it for free, no cost to to the community with the exception of your donation every year,” said Chief Flak.

All of the money from the Christmas tree sales will go towards helping the department with equipment from fire truck maintenance to tools. “The gear from helmets, boots, coat, pants, all that. It runs you almost five grand for everything per person,” Chief Flak added.

As volunteer fire departments from across the nation face a shortage of fire fighters, Chief Flak encourages people to join the Wesleyville Volunteer Fire Department team.

The trees cost between $35- $45 and will be on sale until Christmas day.
