Wolf cites Erie in letter about rejection of new congressional map proposal

Local News

Governor Tom Wolf has rejected the congressional map submitted by Republican lawmakers.  Wolf can now submit his own map, try to make a deal with legislators, or allow the State Supreme Court to re-draw the map.

As part of the court’s ruling, that new map must be in place for Pennsylvania’s upcoming May primary election.  In his rejection of the map, Wolf’s letter to the Senate, President, and House Speaker cites Erie, writing, “cities like Reading and Erie are irrationally connected to rural areas to dilute their interests”.

In response, the GOP leaders called Wolf’s pronouncements “absurd” writing, “where are you going to connect Erie but to rural areas?  There are no voters living in Lake Erie and we are not able to go into Ohio, New York, or Toronto with this exercise.”
