More than 30 million kids get free or reduced cost meals during the school year. The YMCA is joining with a number of sponsors, including Wal-Mart, to keep those kids fed in the summer, too.
The Meals for Kids Program provides free lunches, along with summer activities to keep those kids busy. Organizers hope to serve as many as 10,000 meals in 8 city parks before the school year starts again.
According to YMCA’s website, the program aims to “serve nutritious meals for kids ages 2-18. No application, income verification or registration is required. After kids eat, Y staff offer activities including playground games, board games, arts/crafts and more.”
