There will soon be more ways to pay for parking downtown.  Erie Parking Authority is upgrading its parking meter technology.

Changes include pay-by-phone capabilities where drivers can download an app on their phone to make payments or extend payments.  The Parking Authority is also looking into getting kiosks, accepting debit cards, credit cards, cash, and coins.

Ray Massing, Executive Director, says, “we intend on having a trial area, get people used to it, see what their opinions are, if they like us; don’t like us but that is the approach that as of now we are leaning towards”.

Massing says it will be a slow transition so people will have time to get used to the changes.  He says he’d like to have all the requests for proposals done by March 16th and, hopefully, the new technology will be implemented by July.
