When you’re traveling south on Interstate 79, just past the McKean exit, you’ll pass a large fixed object; a large communications pole sitting just a few feet from the highway.
PennDOT engineers have determined that, like many trees, the pole is a safety hazard for motorists. The pole is abandoned and not being used, so it’s scheduled to be removed during the second phase of the I-79 median project.
Jill Harry, Press Officer, PennDOT District 1, says, “When we do a construction project and we come in there during the design phase, we’re always looking at, you know, ‘are there hazards in this work zone? And if so, how can we address them? Can we remove them? Can we relocate them?'”
The second phase of the PennDOT median project will be getting underway at the start of the construction season next year.
