Northwestern Elementary school achieves Blue Ribbon status


The school colors at Northwestern Elementary school are red and black. Now you can add the color blue.

The student body and faculty celebrated Friday after the school was named one of the national Blue Ribbon Schools of 2016.

Principal Terry Trimble praised the students and faculty for helping the school achieve the award that’s given out by the Department of Education.

The award is based on then school’s overall academic excellence and the progress in closing achievement gaps.

3 fifth grade students accepted the award and a School of Excellence flag was unveiled.

Northwestern Elementary is one of 18 Pennsylvania schools and one of 330 nationwide named a Blue Ribbon School
