Persinger announces ‘Great Schools Initiative’

News

Erie Mayoral Candidate, Republican John Persinger, announces his ‘Great Schools Initiative’ today while passing along gifts to the Erie School District.

Persinger’s plan is to increase the private sector’s partnership with Erie’s Public Schools saying if elected, the Mayor’s Office will recruit a team of corporate sponsors and volunteers for each public school in the city.  To kick-start the initiative, Persinger’s campaign donated 30 Amazon Kindle e-readers to the district’s before and after school program.  That program’s director, Nick Price, says, “it just seems like the community is rallying around and bringing the community together based on the school district so we are very grateful”.

The point of the initiative, according to Persinger, is “so these schools will get their resources directly from the private sector, at no cost to the school district.  We will have corporate sponsors who will step up and get technology into the hands of teachers and students”.

The Kindles will help the district’s ‘Project Literacy’ continue for another year, helping to develop a love for reading.
