The victim of a deadly New Years Eve shootout is identified.

Police say 28-year-old Darren Germany died of a gunshot wound to the chest, according to Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook. Germany was killed during an exchange of gunfire near the intersection of Prospect Avenue and June Street early Saturday morning.

Germany is the stepson of Erie County Council President, Andre Horton, according to a family member.

Another man was shot in the leg and is in stable condition at UPMC Hamot.

The relationship between the two victims still unknown at this time.

Police a say a fight started inside of a bar and spilled out onto the streets.

They’ve obtained surveillance video from the bar, but say they are relying on witnesses to help them identify the suspect.

There’s been little cooperation so far.

Police Chief Don Dacus says at least 50 people were inside that bar and have information. They are asked to call Erie Police at 870-1120.
