You won’t find this week’s Golden Apple Award Winner fitting the standard definition of a school teacher.

As Lou Baxter reports, her students at Seneca High School think she’s so much more than that.

Betsy Walker teaches health and physical education at Seneca High School in Wattsburg.  The Fort LeBoeuf graduate decided in fifth grade to be a teacher and is very clear about what she likes best about her job; being with the kids.

According to Student Nominator Rebecca Pound, walking into Mrs. Walker’s class is like walking into Cheers, where the teacher knows everybody’s name.

“That’s really important… in their everyday life.”

This week’s Golden Apple Winner listens, is encouraging and is always helpful, but what will Rebecca remember most about Mrs. Walker?

Pound says it’s how much she inspires them and treats them with respect.

Betsy Walker was a student of Dr. Mary Jo Melvin at Edinboro University, who couldn’t be more proud of the connection she’s making with her students.

Congratulations, Betsy Walker, this week’s JET 24 Edinboro University Golden Apple Award Winner.  To nominate your favorite teacher, click here and fill out the form on the page.
