Manufacturing is alive and well in Fairview Township.
Harry Eighmy isn’t just turning a phrase –h e means it.
American Turned Products has been a part of the business community since 1984.
The business, a contract machining specialist, serves customers worldwide.
The thousands of parts manufactured at the Fairview Town ship plant start out as a steel bars, some 12 feet long.
A highly skilled workforce takes over from there.
“We take steel bars and turn them, machine them and create components in that process, high precision, high volume for a number of different industries,” said Eighmy, the chief Operating officer.
Many of those parts are for the automotive industry.
Components for air bags and fuel injection components.
“Typically our parts are used in the newer kind of diesel that improves fuel economy, reduces emissions, gives them more horsepower,” Eighmy said.
The Eighmy’s credit their workforce of more than 100 for the quality work that comes from American Turned Products.
Their customers expect the best and there’s no room for mistakes.
“If there’s one bad part in there — we ship 10,000 a week — one bad part could wreck their assembly equipment, so it’s very important that 100 percent of our products be 100 percent right,” Eighmy said.
And making them 100 percent right starts right here, even businesses in other countries know quality work and materials.
“I think our customers, for how highly technical our products are, they like them to be made in our own back yard,” Eighmy said.
