BayHawks Earn Division Lead With 110-98 Win

The Erie BayHawks (17-16), NBA G League affiliate of the Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club, extended their winning streak tonight, taking down the Lakeland Magic (15-15), 110-98 inside Erie Insurance Arena. The BayHawks ended the month of January with an overall record of 8-3 (.727) and have now moved into first place in the Southeast Division.

The first quarter of tonight’s match was back-and-forth, as the Magic held a slim one-point, 29-28 advantage after the first 12 minutes. Erie opened up the second half on an 11-2 run, gaining a 39-31 lead. Atlanta Hawks two-way player, Andrew White III, poured in seven points during Erie’s 11-2 run. The Magic responded with a run of their own, eventually regaining the lead, 45-44, off of a John Petrucelli right-handed layup. At the intermission of tonight’s contest, Lakeland held a 55-51 lead. 

The BayHawks regained the lead, 65-63, off of a Raphiael Putney three-pointer at the 7:23 mark of the third quarter. With 3:03 left to play in the third, John Petrucelli knocked down a triple to give the Magic a three-point, 76-73, advantage. Josh Magette buried a trey with 1.2 seconds left in the quarter to give the BayHawks an 81-78 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Erie opened up the final quarter on an 11-5 run, extending its lead, 92-83. The BayHawks finished today’s contest with a 110-98 win. Erie now holds a 2-1 regular season series lead over the Lakeland Magic.

Erie was led by Andrew White III, as he poured in a game-high 22 points on 8-10 (.800) shooting from the floor, including a 3-4 (.750) clip from deep and five rebounds in 22.1 minutes. Fellow Atlanta Hawks two-way player, Josh Magette, tallied a double-double, finishing with 13 points, a game-high 13 assists, two rebounds and a game-high four steals in 24.3 minutes of play as a reserve. Tyler Cavanaugh, on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, notched 20 points on 7-12 (.583) shooting, including a 6-9 (.667) mark from downtown, six rebounds and one block in 24.2 minutes. The BayHawks recorded their 110 points on 41-81 (.506) shooting from the floor, including shooting 15-35 (.429) from three-point territory.

John Petrucelli paced Lakeland with a team-high 19 points on 7-10 (.700) shooting, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 26.5 minutes of action. Reggis Onwukamuche pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, to go along with four points, two assists and one block in 23.2 minutes.
