The SeaWolves snapped a three-game losing skid in walk-off fashion as they took down the Trenton Thunder, 6-5, in game two on Saturday’s doubleheader.
The SeaWolves struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Thunder starter Eric Ruth. Harold Castro led off with a single and Jeff McVaney walked with one out, putting two on for Dean Green. Green unloaded on a ball over the right field wall, giving Erie a 3-0 lead. The home run for Green was his 13th of the season, second of the doubleheader and increased his Eastern League leading RBI total to 59.
Trenton answered in the top of the second against SeaWolves starter Santiago Garrido. With one out, Michael O’Neill and Sebastian Valle each walked. Lane Adams followed with an RBI double, plating O’Neill making it a 3-1 game. Dante Bichette, Jr. followed with a double, plating both Valle and Adams, tying the game at 3-3. Cito Culver walked then walked, putting two on base for the Thunder. Erie summoned Confesor Lara to face Dustin Fowler. Fowler doubled home both Bichette and Culver for a 5-3 Trenton lead.
The SeaWolves answered in the fifth, tying the game against Trenton reliever Caleb Smith. Castro led off and connected on a solo home run to center, making it a one-run game at 5-4. With one out, McVaney clobbered a solo home run, his sixth, tying the game at 5-5.
The game remained tied into the bottom of the seventh. Dominic Ficociello led off with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Jason Krizan sent a single up the middle, scoring Ficociello, giving Erie the win.
