ERIE, Pa. – Less than two days after capturing the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship, the Gannon softball team received word it would head to the 2018 NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional as the No. 3 seed. The NCAA released its 64-team field Monday morning during a live selection show on www.ncaa.com.
Head coach Tom Jakubowski’s squad will be making its sixth NCAA Division II Tournament appearance in program history and first since 2015. Gannon (29-12) enters the national tournament as the Atlantic region’s No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Seton Hill (23-15) during the first round scheduled for Thursday, May 10. Game time is set for 12 o’clock noon.
West Virginia Wesleyan will host the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional which kicks off Thursday with two games. Following the Gannon/Seton Hill matchup, No. 2 West Va. Wesleyan (40-12) will face No. 7 West Virginia State (34-20) at 2:30 p.m.
Lock Haven will host the other half of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional. The No. 4-seeded Bald Eagles (36-12) will face Shepherd (33-18) on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. No. 1 West Chester (40-13) will face Chowan (31-14) at 1 p.m.
Gannon captured the program’s first PSAC Championship title last Saturday after defeating No. 1-seed West Chester, 5-3. The Lady Knights went 4-0 in the PSAC Tournament, knocking off Bloomsburg, No. 4 Lock Haven and No. 1 West Chester twice.
