The Mercyhurst North East athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Shannon Pullium as the new Saints Head Men’s Basketball Coach. Coach Pullium, an Erie native, has spent the past 17 years as the head boys’ basketball coach for Strong Vincent High School. “We are extremely excited to have Shannon join our athletics staff,” says MNE Athletic Director Brian Dewey. “Shannon has been a highly successful coach at Strong Vincent and I look forward to watching him continue to grow as a coach in a sport he is most passionate about. Not only do I predict Shannon to have success on the court, but he is a perfect choice to push his athletes to find success in the classroom as well.”
“I am very excited about this opportunity to coach at Mercyhurst North East,” says Pullium. “I had an amazing experience coaching at Strong Vincent but it has always been a goal of mine to get back into the college level.” Pullium played point guard for 4 seasons for Slippery Rock University. After graduating from SRU, he transitioned into high school coaching.
Pullium has established himself as one of the top basketball coaches in the area. While at Strong Vincent HS, Pullium recorded a career record of 286-144, enough to be the winningest coach in program history. He also helped lead Strong Vincent to district championships in 2010 and 2016.
Shannon Pullium will begin immediately. The Saints were 16-13 last season which included a program best 11 game winning streak. The Saints begin their 2016-2017 campaign on October 1st, 2016.
