The SeaWolves, behind another strong pitching performance, shut out the Harrisburg Senators, 2-0, on Saturday night at FNB Field.
Erie struck first in the top of the fourth inning against Harrisburg starter John Simms. With one out, Dominic Ficociello belted a solo home run to right for a 1-0 lead. It was his fifth home run of the season and first from the left side of the plate.
The ‘Wolves added to their lead in the sixth. Kody Eaves led off with a double to the wall in right field and moved to third on a Ficociello groundout. Christin Stewart lifted a fly ball to right, bringing Eaves home on a sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
The two runs were enough for the Erie pitching staff. Starter A.J. Ladwig (6-1) earned his second straight win and fourth win in his past five starts. He hurled 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
For the second straight night, the Erie bullpen did not allow a hit. Three relievers, Kurt Spomer, Paul Voelker and Bryan Garica, tossed 2-1 scoreless innings in relief of Ladwig to preserve the shutout win. Garcia, despite walking a pair, battled through and earned his fourth save in as many chances.
Simms (3-6) took the loss for Harrisburg allowing two runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts in six innings.
Erie has now was six straight over the Senators.
The ‘Wolves look for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Lefty Matt Crouse (4-2, 4.75 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Kyle McGowin (0-4, 9.45 ERA).
