The SeaWolves could not build on Friday night’s comeback win as they dropped the second game of a four-game series to the Altoona Curve, 8-1 on Saturday night at UPMC Park.
The Curve struck first in the top of the second. Jordan Luplow reached base on a one-out walk and advanced to second on a Wyatt Mathisen single. Jerrick Suiter doubled home the baserunners for a 2-0 lead.
The SeaWolves responded in the fourth inning by flexing its two-out muscle. After back-to-back walks put Dominic Ficociello and Grayson Greiner on base, Kody Eaves singled home Ficociello for the lone Erie run of the night.
The Curve would immediately strike back in the fifth. Pablo Reyes drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and came around to score on a Kevin Kramer RBI single. Connor Joe followed and sent a two-run home run to left as Altoona extended its lead 5-1.
The Curve continued to pull away in the sixth as Suiter led off with a base hit, reached second on a Jackson Williams groundout and came around to score on a Reyes RBI Double. Kevin Kramer brought home Williams on an RBI double for a 7-1 lead.
The Curve would cap off their night in the ninth as Edwin Espinsal sent a solo home run to left as Altoona went up 8-1.
Curve pitcher Buddy Borden (3-0) picked up the win, tossing two scoreless innings in relief. He allowed one hit with a walk and a strikeout.
Erie starter Josh Turley took the loss allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts in four innings.
